11/27 - Raíces on TV!!!

Sometime in the morning on WGN!

Raises will play some music in honor of the anniversary of Cal Tjader's bestselling record Soul Sauce. The concept of that band has been an inspiration for our group's instrumentation and sound and the tunes are great! We'll be playing the full record at some shows coming up too!

12/5 - Hana Hawley Recital

7:30-8:30 at Roosevelt University

Hana, wonderful saxophonist, has some original music and arrangements of tunes for this concert as part of her Bachelor's degree requirements. This will be super fun!

12/6 - Raíces

6-9 at Studio5 in Evanston

We are playing our interpretation the entire Cal Trader Soul Sauce record at this intimate concert space in Evanston. Get tickets here! Here's a bit about our band:

Raíces (Roots) pays homage to the originators of Latin Jazz and performs original music in the same style. The release of their debut, self-titled album was well received and earned this exciting quintet a featured spot at the 2023 Chicago Latin Jazz Festival. Raíces was modeled on the famous Cal Tjader Quintet of the 1950’s & 60’s by the late Chicago percussionist Rubén Alvarez and is now led by vibraphonist Joe Sonnefeldt. Since their post-pandemic return, the group has thrilled audiences at area music festivals and Chicago performance venues.

12/8 - Shout Section Big Band

7-10 at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn

Shout Section Big Band will be playing its unique collection of classic charts and original arrangements in the historic Fitzgerald's club. The place has some nice BBQ too!

12/9 - Big Band Boom!

8-11 at The Gallery Cabaret in Chicago

This 17-piece jazz band, led by Matt Kern, plays a wide range of material in this local, lovely dive. We play charts from the classic Basie to Thad and Mel, and even get into some crazy arrangements of classical composers. Also, if you come around 6, vocalist Cass Foley and I will play a duo set. No cover.

12/12 - A Charlie Brown Christmas and Carol Concert

6:30-9 at The Burr Ridge Community Church

This is the 3rd year in a row we have put on this show in this beautiful sanctuary. I'll play some selections from A Charlie Brown Christmas, take a break for some wine and cheese, then come back and play some Christmas music! The band will be Aaron Mitter on bass, Keith Brooks on drums,  Casey Fitzpatrick on sax and Amy Yassinger on vocals! Tickets can be bought at the door or here.

12/15 - "Merry Christmas Darling"

Amy Yassinger and friends pay a loving holiday tribute to The Carpenters and a couple other 70s icons.
